June 2025 Visa Update: What Students Need to Know to Study in the USA Now

Breaking News: Temporary Pause on Visa Interview Slots

On May 28, 2025, an internal cable from the U.S. State Department directed all embassies and consulates to pause the release of new visa interview slots for F-1, M-1, and J-1 visa applicants. This is part of an upgrade to expand social media screening, which now includes a 5-year review of social activity.

Important: If you already have a scheduled visa interview, it will proceed as planned. Do not cancel
or postpone.

What You Can Do Right Now

Even though new appointments are temporarily paused, it’s not a time to sit back it’s the perfect time to prepare, organize, and act strategically.

For Students With a Visa Appointment

Attend as scheduled with all necessary documents.
Show strong academic intent and proof of ties to your home country.
Be ready to explain why you chose your university, and what your long-term plans are.

Finish your documents: I-20, DS-160, SEVIS fee.
Monitor embassy portals daily slots may reopen without prior announcement.
Look into alternate consulates (e.g., Rabat, Casablanca, or others in the region).

Study in the USA: Yes, It’s Still Worth It

Despite stricter regulations and delays, the U.S. remains the #1 destination for international education because of:

Access to internships and post-graduation work via OPT (Optional Practical Training).
The potential to apply for H-1B visas and long-term employment.

Note: There’s been discussion in Congress about eliminating OPT, but such efforts have little support. The current system remains intact and active, allowing most international students up to 3 years of U.S. work experience after graduation.

How to Maximize Your Visa Success Rate

Choose your school thoughtfully—and be able to explain why.
Demonstrate passion and knowledge about your chosen program (Bachelor’s, MBA, etc.).
Know what’s in your DS-160. Don’t let inconsistencies cost you your visa.
Show financial readiness and future plans, including how you’ll use your U.S. education at home.
